Can I create income with my gift?
Yes! Gettysburg has many plans for
Gifts that Pay You Income. You can also provide income for a child, a grandchild, a parent, or a friend. That income can increase cash flow now and/or during retirement, pay for a college education, provide income for aging parents, or perhaps assist a loved one with special needs. You can also provide income to Gettysburg by using a
Charitable Lead Trust.
I am unable to make a current gift, but I'd still like to support Gettysburg in the future. Any ideas?
An easy and low cost way to make a gift to Gettysburg is to include Gettysburg in your will or revocable trust.
Gifts by Will are a major source of endowment support at Gettysburg. Each individual legacy contributes to our financial strength and ability to meet the needs of our students and their families. If you have not already done so, please consider putting Gettysburg in your will or revocable trust. See our
Bequest Language page for samples of how to do this. You can also designate Gettysburg the beneficiary of
Life insurance, annuities, or
Retirement-Plan Benefits.
What asset should I use to make my gift?

Can I direct how Gettysburg will use my gift?
Most often the answer to this is "yes"!! Many donors direct that their gifts be used to create scholarships, support specific departments, honor a favorite faculty member, or remember a loved one. Please be sure to discuss this when you make your gift.
How will Gettysburg recognize my gift?
Your gift will be listed in the Annual Report of Donors in the year you make the gift. If your gift is a bequest commitment, or through life insurance, life-income plans, or lead trusts, you will become a permanent member of Gettysburg's
1832 Society. Of course, we will also honor any requests for gifts to be anonymous.
Why should I consider a gift to Gettysburg?
Gifts are made for many different reasons. Often gifts are made
- To express gratitude for the education you received
- To honor a loved one or a professor who was important to your education
- To ensure Gettysburg will remain a vibrant and strong place for today's students and for future students
- To help Gettysburg provide the very best in education to students, regardless of their finances
- To celebrate a special occasion such as a reunion

I am considering establishing a CRT but am concerned about trust fees and trust administration. Will I need to serve as trustee of my trust?
No. Many donors who establish a charitable remainder trust benefiting Gettysburg choose to name Gettysburg as trustee. In order to properly fulfill its responsibilities as trustee, Gettysburg has engaged the services of Kaspick and Company. Kaspick offers superb investment performance and provides timely performance and tax information—all for a fee that is generally less than that paid to a commercial trustee.
I am updating my estate plan and want to include Gettysburg—what is its legal name and address?
Gettysburg College, 300 North Washington Street, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania 17325-1485
Does Gettysburg need to know my bequest intentions?
We recognize that you might wish to keep your bequest intentions confidential. If you are willing to inform us, however, knowledge of your intentions helps Gettysburg in its financial planning, and you would qualify for membership in the
1832 Society. Gettysburg established the
1832 Society to honor alumni and friends who have supported the university through their estate plans or with a life income gift. For many donors a bequest offers the opportunity to make a more substantial gift than would be possible during the donor's lifetime. Other donors view a bequest as an opportunity to give a lasting legacy to Gettysburg. Bequests are one of the simplest forms of planned giving and have been the primary means of additions to Gettysburg's endowment.
Can I designate the use of a life-income gift?
Yes. While unrestricted gifts and bequests are especially helpful because they can be used for the highest priority at the time, you are free to designate a particular use for your gift. Any assets remaining after the lives of the designated beneficiaries are used for the purposes specified by the donor. You can have the satisfaction of supporting programs that match your interests. Contributions for endowment, for example, are always priorities, and may include student scholarships, faculty support, the library, athletics, or a specific program. We can help you determine where your gift would be most useful and are happy to discuss your special wishes and interests.
Can assets other than cash be used to fund a planned gift arrangement?
Yes. Donating appreciated assets such as securities or real estate can bring even more benefits to a donor. By giving these assets to Gettysburg to establish a charitable gift annuity or charitable remainder trust, a donor can reduce capital-gain tax liability and still receive a charitable deduction and other tax and income benefits (maybe a link to describe gift annuities and trusts)
